We are in an era of electronic world- Agreed!
The keywords most relevant to your job search are the words and phrases someone would use to describe your next job (as well as your current job).


As long as you are actively looking out for a job, you'll likely be spending a significant amount of time editing and sending out your resume. Remember to use key words. Why? Most employers use electronic scanner devices to screen and rank candidates. Tailor your resume with each position you apply for and include the specific words from the job posting. The bottom line is that if you apply for a job with a company that searches databases for keywords, and your resume doesn't have the keywords the company seeks for the person who fills that job, you are pretty much dead in the water. 

You wouldn't know the exact form of keyword that the employer will use as a search criteria, it will make sense to also use synonyms, various form of keyword and also the spelled out and acronym version of common terms.

Do not be fake

Task
Description
A. Reading
Test takers read printed, numbered sentences. The sentences are relatively simple in structure and vocabulary, so they can be read easily and in a fluent manner by literate speakers of the target language.
B. Repeats
Test takers repeat sentences verbatim. Sentences are presented in order of increasing difficulty. The audio item prompts are delivered at a natural conversational pace.
C. Short Answer Questions
Test takers listen to questions and answer each of these questions with a single word or short phrase. Each question asks for basic information, or requires simple inferences based on time, sequence, number, lexical content, or logic.
D. Sentence Builds
Test takers are presented with three short phrases. The phrases are presented in random order and the test taker is asked to rearrange them into a sentence.
E. Story Retelling
Test takers listen to a story and are then asked to describe what happened in their own words. Test takers are encouraged to tell as much of the story as they can, including the situation, characters, actions and ending.
F. Open Questions
Test takers listen to a question asking for an opinion and provide an answer with an explanation. The questions deal either with family life or with the test taker’s preferences and choices. This task is used to collect a spontaneous speech sample. The test taker’s responses are not scored automatically, but these responses are available for human review by authorized listeners.

Effective Resume, How to create a good resume


Creating an effective, "targeted" resume is the first step to getting a great job
We are in the era where every position is specialized so it is important to tailor your resumes accordingly.
A general resume may not indicate the specific skills and accomplishments that would help you to achieve success in a given position.  Whereas creating a targeted resume makes perfect sense from a business point of view. It recognizes the fact that prospective employers are looking for specific qualifications when they're attempting to find a pool of candidates to interview for an advertised job.



Things to be taken care of

·          The layout must be clean and professional.
·          Use professional legible font.
·          List strong skills and qualification in the first half of the resume.
·          The position and place of employment must be highlighted (bold or underlined).
·          Include special recognition, awards and participation in relevant professional field.
·          Look for ways to economize your words. Your statement must be short with a punch.
·          Use bullets instead of paragraphs.
·          Use a lot of white space (Readability matters).
·          Proofread for errors.
·          Print your resume in a high quality paper.




Things to be avoided

·          Don’t label your resume with the word resume as it is obvious.
·          Do not use funny email address. Your email id must be professional,   your name and a few numbers added to it will do justice.
·          Don’t include photographs unless it is required.
·        Avoid acronyms and jargons. Keep it simple and readable. Do not expect your recruiter to understand them.
·          Do not bother much with objectives. Your key skills matter the most.
·          Do not include hobbies or interests unless they support your job objectives.
·          Things like height, religious views, marital, parenthood status should not be included.





Don’t expect somebody to hire you only because of your resume. It’s simply a piece of paper with no guarantee of truthfulness. Only you can speak for yourself, not your record. Meanwhile resume is the gateway where you get a chance to be interviewed.

Indianism-Get rid of it!

You work in the BPO field?
You talk to international customers?
Then just read this and get over mother tongue influence!

Indianism! We could start a whole new English grammar pattern with touch of our mother tongue. We sometimes complicate it with usage of big words and mess it even more. 
Typically we use a "no" or "only" in end of every sentences as a question tag or exclamation as it comes in our mother tongue.  Likewise, here are some Indianism we must avoid.

Lets start off with the classic "What is your good name?"

Are you suggesting a person has two names-- a good one and a bad one?
And that s/he should be only telling you her/his good name?
This is an example of thoughtless translation of Hindi--Aap ka shubh naam kya hai?

ATM Machine

The full form of ATM is Automated Teller Machine.
So next time when you say ATM, think of its full form as a sentence.

Despite of

 It’s either in-spite of or just despite. ''In spite of/despite the heavy traffic, we got there on time.''


Even

People often say "even" when they mean "also" or "too". 
When a strong statement is made, the statement is often followed with an example containing "even." The word "even" adds shock, surprise, or excitement to the example. So instead of ''She's even coming'' use ''She's also coming''



Me and my family

For heaven's sake put the monkey behind. Its "my family and I''. This might be accepted in the US, but did you forget we follow the rules of UK English?



The "sir theory"

Sir is an honorific used as a courtesy title to address a man without using his given name or family name in many English speaking cultures. It is often used in formal correspondence like "dear sir" etc..
But using Sir after a name is wrong. Just say "sir" or "Mr. Ronald" 


Please put a mail
Where would you want us to 'put' a mail?
And how exactly would you like us to 'put' it?
You get the drift, right?
When you say 'Put a mail', you are most likely (and unconsciously) translating from colloquial Hindi -- 'Ek mail daal do.'

5 a.m. in the morning

Knowing what 'a.m.' means what is the necessity of morning there?
Instead use" I woke up by 5 a.m." or I woke up 5 in the morning".

Wind/Rain is coming

 From where will wind come? Air cannot come. So can’t rain or any other natural phenomenon for that matter. Just saying “It’s windy” or “It looks like it’s going to rain” will do.

Out of station

Out of which 'station'?
Use 'out of town' instead.

Discuss about
The word discuss means 'talk about'
So there is no need of 'about' in the sentence.

Order for
When you order something, you order it, you do not order for it.

Can be able to
Both can and able hold the same meaning
So instead of 
I can be able to do it.
Say
I can do it.
or
I will be able to do it.

Kindly revert
In Standard English,revert means return to a former state.
So one cannot revert after reading your mail.
Instead of saying
Kindly revert back to me.
Say
Please reply to me.

Do the needful
Here come the king of indianism, 'Do the needful' is a very old fashioned English. It went out of style decades ago,by the time British left. This is outdated all over the world expect India
So instead of 
Please do the needful.
Say,
Please do what is necessary or needed.

Years back
If anything has happened in past, its 'years ago' and not years back.

The Indian-ism of Indian English can add unique character to the language just like US English or Australian English which is very different to that of UK’s. But we must remember to get our grammar correct.
